Janis - Scottish Seascape

Janis Firminger

Janis’s work is inspired by places that have been important to her, including Venice, the Peak District, Scotland and her home in Coventry.  She is interested in the ways in which landscapes change and the extent to which memory and experiences colour and influence perceptions of place over time.

Working with previously owned fabrics and reshaping these is an important aspect of much of her work. Old sari silks and fabrics are distressed, painted, dyed and stitched supporting the process of reflection on a constantly changing environment that we both shape and are shaped by, sometimes by forces beyond our control, and despite our best efforts.
